Morning Departure from Marrakech and the High Atlas Crossing

We’ll begin our desert journey bright and early from Marrakech, leaving the city’s hustle behind as we head south toward the majestic High Atlas Mountains.

Our first major stop is the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest paved mountain pass in North Africa.

Midday Exploration at Ait Benhaddou – The Legendary Kasbah

Our next stop is Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars (fortified villages) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll guide you on a walking tour through its narrow alleys, earthen clay houses, and centuries-old towers.

You might even recognize this place from movie scenes in Gladiator, Game of Thrones, or Lawrence of Arabia.

Afternoon Stop in Ouarzazate – The Door to the Desert

From Ait Benhaddou, we’ll drive just a bit further to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa.” This is your chance to explore the city’s cinematic legacy. Depending on time and interest, we can stop at the Atlas Film Studios or take a walk near the impressive Taourirt Kasbah.

Drive Through the Draa Valley – Oases, Palms & Berber Culture

As we continue south, the landscape opens up into the lush Draa Valley, a dramatic contrast to the arid plains we’ve crossed earlier. This valley, lined with date palms, crumbling kasbahs, and traditional Berber villages, stretches over 200 kilometers and is considered Morocco’s longest river oasis.

Evening Arrival in Zagora – Camel Trek into the Desert

By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Zagora, where your desert adventure begins. You’ll meet your camel caravan and set off for a gentle 2-hour trek.

Once we reach the desert camp, you’ll be welcomed with traditional mint tea and shown to your tent. Dinner will be served under the stars, often with live Berber drumming and storytelling around the fire.
