Here is a proposed tour itinerary for 2-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour:
Day 1: Marrakech to Erg Chebbi dunes
The 2-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with a 7:00 AM pick-up from your hotel, followed by a scenic drive into the High Atlas Mountains. The road goes up to Tizi n’Tichka, the highest mountain pass in Morocco. There will be short stops along the way to rest and take photos.
Our first quick stop is Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s best-known ksars. You’ll have time to take photos of the clay-built structures that have appeared in many notable films.
From here, we continue toward Ouarzazate, the Gateway of the Sahara. You’ll make a brief stop near the Taourirt Kasbah and pass by the Atlas Film Studios, a major center for desert filming.
After Ouarzazate, the road passes through the Skoura area with its palm groves and old kasbahs. By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga. Here, you’ll ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes and reach your desert camp. Dinner is served at the camp, followed by an evening around the fire and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Erg Chebbi dunes & Return to Fes
The day begins early with time to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Afterward, you’ll have breakfast at the camp and ride back toward Merzouga.
From Merzouga, we drive to Rissani, a town known for its lively souk. You can explore the market and see the local trade in spices, crafts, and other goods.
Next, we continue through Erfoud, a town famous for fossils, and drive along the Ziz Valley, lined with palm groves and small settlements. There will be stops for photos and to enjoy the surroundings.
On the way back to Fes, we pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop at the Azrou cedar forest. Here, you can see the Barbary monkeys and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
