The itinerary for 2-day Fes desert tour
Here’s the itinerary details of the 2-day Fes desert tour:
Day 1: From Fes to Merzouga desert
The first day of the 2-day Fes to Merzouga desert tour begins with our departure from Fes in the morning as we head toward Ifrane. This small mountain town is known for its neat streets and red-roofed buildings, a contrast to the rest of Morocco.
From there, we’ll drive to Azrou to visit the cedar forest. You can walk among the trees and spot Barbary macaques moving freely through the branches.
Around midday, we’ll pause in Midelt for lunch. This town sits between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains and offers a chance to stretch and enjoy a simple local meal.
After lunch, the route continues through the Ziz Valley, lined with palm groves and small villages. We will pause briefly in Erfoud, a town known for its fossils and date production. You’ll see how fossils are handled and have a moment to explore the town.
By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Camels are ready for a ride into the desert, and we’ll continue to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: From Merzouga back to Fes
The second day of this desert tour from Fes starts with an early wakeup to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Afterward, we’ll have breakfast at the camp and ride camels back to Merzouga village.
From there, we drive to Rissani. This town is known for its traditional souk and its role as an old trading hub in the region. You can take a short walk, see some local products, or just stretch your legs.
As we drive north, we’ll go through Erfoud again. Then, we’ll pass Errachidia, a quiet desert town marking the start of the Middle Atlas mountains.
Next on the route is Ziz Valley, a long stretch of palm trees and small villages along the river. We’ll pause for a few photos and the view.
Before reaching Fes, we’ll make a short stop at the Azrou cedar forest if time allows. You can take a short walk among the trees and see the Barbary macaques that live in the area.
Finally, we’ll arrive back in Fes by early evening.
